Weekend in Puglia: among Stones, Trulli and Castles

Departure is an exciting time for many travellers. It marks the beginning of an adventure. Today you will start to be part of a community, which will give you a rewarding travel experience. After your welcome at the airport, depending on the arrival time of the flight, we can visit Bari, known as “Eastern Gate”, for its important port overlooking the Adriatic Sea. Strolling through the narrow alleys, white houses and draped cloths of old Bari the real historic centre of the city we will visit the main attractions of the city such as the Basilica, the cathedral and the Norman-Svevo castle which is considered one of the symbols of Bari. Hotel accommodation in the Bari area, dinner and overnight.

After breakfast and departure for Matera, small jewel dug in the mountains where time seems to have stopped and the surrounding landscape seems to be that of a painting. Its old houses carved in the limestone, dating back to prehistoric times, called Sassi, have been restored and transformed into hotels, restaurants and shops and offer visitors a unique experience of life in the ancient city. Visit of a cave house (entrance included). After lunch, we will continue to Castel del Monte (entrance included), a fortress built by Frederick II of Swabia in the thirteenth century and famous throughout the world for its characteristic octagonal plan. Guests will go up to the castle by shuttle. In the late afternoon, return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight.

After breakfast at the hotel, departure for Ostuni, known as the “white city” of Salento, for its white houses perched on three hills overlooking the Valle d’Itria. Visit the old town, an intricate maze of narrow and winding streets that lead to picturesque squares, hidden courtyards among white houses and noble palaces and beautiful churches to visit such as the Cathedral. Typical lunch with a show of “Pizzica” in a Masseria in the area of Alberobello, in the heart of the “Trulli” region. Also known as “the city of trulli”, typical white stone houses with conical roofs that give the city a really picturesque atmosphere, the village of Alberobello has been included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Visit of the «Trullo Supremo» with its 12 rooms (entrance included). Return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight.

On this day of return, nostalgia for the places visited and enthusiasm for returning home mix. We will accompany you to the airport to help you with boarding logistics.
